Cât de bogat eşti? Indiferent de cât de multe şi de costisitoare ar fi cadourile de sub brad, ar trebui să vă întrebaţi pe câţi prieteni puteţi conta cu adevărat. Oare, pe câţi dintre ei i-ai pierdut în ultimul an, dezamăgindu-te sau, la rândul tău, înşelându-le încrederea? Pe unii dintre ei, cei care altădată ţi-au fost dintre cei mai dragi, nu i-ai mai revăzut de ani întregi, altora nu le-ai mai dat un semn de viaţă. Poate că te consideră arogant, izolat într-o lume inaccesibilă lor sau, cine ştie, deja le-ai devenit de-a dreptul nesuferit. Oricât de mult ai dori să le explici şi să justifici dinstanţa dintre tine şi ei, oricât de multă înţelegere ai căuta, nu vei reuşi nici dacă aceasta ar fi dorinţa ta şoptită lângă ramura pomului de iarnă. Nu mi-am numărat niciodată prietenii. Poate că mi-a fost teamă să nu fiu “prea sărac” sau, amintindu-mi câte promisiuni am risipit, m-am temut ca nu cumva pe unii dintre ei să-i fi pierdut definitiv. în schimb, am încercat să înţeleg cât de importanţi sunt ei în viaţa mea. Nu cred că fără prietenie se poate respira. Singurătatea nu este decât o iluzie, o pastilă amară.
Dar cât de multe ştim despre adevărata prietenie pentru a o proteja cu adevărat? Să privim puţin în trecut pentru ca anul care vine să nu ne mai găsească departe de prieteni. “Oricât de multe şi oricât de mari avantaje ar avea prietenia, ea e fără îndoială mai presus de orice prin aceea că face să strălucească dulcea speranţă în viitor şi nu lasă curajul să slăbească sau să piară. Cine priveşte un adevărat prieten priveşte oarecum propriul său chip. De aceea cei de departe sunt prezenţi, săracii trăiesc în belşug, cei slabi sunt puternici şi, ceea ce e mai greu de spus, morţii trăiesc; atât de multă cinstire, atâta amintire şi atât de mare regret al prietenilor îi însoţesc. De aceea moartea lor pare fericită, iar viaţa acestora vrednică de laudă. Iar dacă vei îndepărta din lume legăturile de prietenie, nu va mai putea rămâne în picioare nici o casă, nici un oraş şi nici măcar munca câmpului nu va mai dăinui”, spune Cicero.
Chiar dacă nu ne-am revăzut de foarte mult timp şi nici nu am reuşit să vorbim de un car de ani, sau crezi că nu mai avem prea multe în comun, nu te-am uitat, prietene drag. Şi îţi mai spun că, indiferent cât de grele ar fi problemele tale, poţi conta oricând pe prietenia mea.
